A project is one product's home in Tuti: its feedback, roadmap, changelog, docs and support inbox, with its own portal and team. This article takes you from signing up to a project that's ready for your users.

Create your first project

  1. Sign up at tuti.so with your name, email address and a password of at least 8 characters.

  2. Tuti emails you a link to verify your address. It lasts 24 hours, and you can carry on before you open it.

  3. On Welcome to Tuti, fill in Create your first project:

    • Name: your product's name, 2 to 60 characters. It shows on your portal, in its emails and in the app.

    • URL: 2 to 40 lowercase letters, numbers and single dashes. It becomes your portal's address, and the line under the field shows it as you type, such as fieldnote.tuti.so.

  4. Choose Create project.

The Create your first project card with Fieldnote as the name and fieldnote as the URL, and the portal address fieldnote.tuti.so under it

If the URL is in use, Tuti says "That URL is already taken". Some URLs are kept for Tuti itself, such as www, app, docs, help and api; those get "That URL is reserved".

You're the project's Owner. It starts on the Free plan, with one feedback board, Feature requests, and your portal at the address you picked.

The URL can't be changed later. To put your portal at your own address instead, see Use a custom domain and Put your portal under a path of your site.

Set up your project

Right after Create project, Tuti opens the setup, titled with your project's name (such as Set up Fieldnote). It has three short steps. The first two have Skip, the last ends with Go to Home, and Skip setup at the top goes straight to Home whenever you like. Only owners and admins see the setup.

Step 1: What will you use?

Tick everything you plan to use:

  • Feedback: posts and votes from your users, and a roadmap.

  • Docs: a help center your users can search.

  • Changelog: what's new, on the portal and in the widget.

  • Support: an inbox for your users' messages, once you turn it on.

Step 1 of 3, What will you use?, with Feedback, Docs and Changelog ticked and the sample content box below

Your picks don't switch anything on or off: everything stays available. They decide which steps Home's Get set up list shows. Continue works once you've ticked something.

Tick Add sample content to try things with to fill the project with examples for what you picked. See "Try it with sample content" below.

Step 2: Add the widget to your site

Copy the script tag and paste it into your site's pages, before </body>. It adds a button that opens feedback and what's new in a panel, and your docs once you've published an article. Then choose Continue. For where else to find the snippet and what the widget can do, see Add the widget to your site.

Step 3: Invite your team

Enter a teammate's email address, pick a role and choose Send invite. Repeat for each person, then choose Go to Home. Invites work as they do in Settings → Team & roles; see Invite your team.

To come back to the setup later, choose Set up your project on Home while the project has nothing in it yet. Your earlier picks are still ticked.

Work through Get set up

Home's Get set up card lists what's left to do, with a button for each step, and counts how many are done. Owners and admins see it until every step is done.

Try it with sample content

Sample content gives you something to try Tuti with before your users arrive. Owners and admins can add it from the setup's first step, or with Add sample content on Home. Home offers it until the project has content of its own.

It adds examples for what you picked in the setup, or for all four if you picked nothing:

  • Feedback: three posts on your first board, with votes, a comment and a status.

  • Docs: a Getting started collection with two articles.

  • Changelog: one published update.

  • Support: one conversation that waits for a reply.

Each sample item is labelled Sample in your lists and on the portal. Sample content is never emailed to anyone, and Home's numbers leave it out. On the Free plan, sample articles count toward your published articles; any over the limit are added as drafts.

To remove it, choose Remove sample content on Home's Sample content card and confirm. Everything labelled Sample goes, with any changes you made to it and every vote, comment and reply on it, yours and your users'. Your own posts, articles and updates stay.

Rename your project

Owners and admins can rename a project in Settings → General: change Project name (2 to 60 characters) and choose Save. The new name shows on your portal, in its emails and in the app. Your portal's address stays the same; the page shows where it is, and Domain is where you change it.

Add another project

Each product gets its own project, with its own portal, team and plan. To make another, open the project switcher at the top of the sidebar and choose Add project. See Find your way around the app.

There's no way to delete a project yourself yet. To have one deleted, email us at [email protected] with its URL.
